Germany and the United States have agreed to join France in the supply of armored combat vehicles to Ukraine.

Observers believe that this step is important for strengthening Ukraine's combat capabilities in the war against Russia.

For several months, Ukraine asked its Western allies to provide it with tanks. And although these vehicles are less dangerous, the decision to ship them marks a new precedent.

Ukraine called this step a "great victory".

Berlin has long been reluctant to supply weapons to Kyiv. But after the announcement on Wednesday by French President Emmanuel Macron to send AMX-10 RC light combat vehicles to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held talks on Thursday evening with US President Joe Biden and the two leaders also agreed to send combat vehicles to Ukraine.

The German Chancellor has repeatedly stressed that Berlin will not act alone on the issue of tanks or armored combat vehicles.

So far, Ukraine's Western allies have not provided it with this type of weapons. However, Germany participated in exchange transactions, as part of which Ukraine received old Soviet tanks from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Greece, and in exchange, these countries received more modern German weapons.

While Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expressed his gratitude, his country's defense ministry said it was still looking for tanks.

US President Joe Biden was supposed to officially announce the order on Friday, but reports indicated that 50 Bradley fighting vehicles were part of a package of security measures worth $2.8 billion.

The US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, said that Bradley was not a tank, but a tank destroyer.

At the end of March, Germany plans to send about 40 Marder armored fighting vehicles, as well as the Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex.

The government representative said that training in the use of these weapons can be carried out in Germany for eight weeks.

It is assumed that together these three types of armored vehicles will increase Ukraine's combat capabilities on the battlefields against Russian troops.

The French AMX-10 RC car resembles a tank in that it has a 105 mm gun, but it is not a caterpillar but moves on wheels.

The American Bradley machine will also provide the Ukrainian army with greater combat power. The machine is equipped with a Bosch master 25 mm cannon, which can fire explosive or armor-piercing shells.

The Bradley vehicle can carry up to ten soldiers and the US army has been using it to transport troops to the battlefields since the eighties.

The representative of the Pentagon is a general. Pat Ryder said Bradley will support offensive and defensive operations.

The German army has been using the Marder combat vehicle since the 1970s. It is equipped with a 20 mm cannon that can hit helicopters and tanks at a distance of 1500 meters. The Marder car has recently been equipped with thermal cameras to facilitate its use at night.

The German Bundestag almost unanimously approved a measure to provide Ukraine with a Marder car.

Marie-Agnès Strack-Zimmermann, head of the Bundestag's Defense Committee, said that this measure had been taken "too late, but not too late yet".

Marie-Agnes added that she would also not stop insisting on the supply of the Leopard-2 tank to Ukraine, "after Marder, it will be Leopard".

German Foreign Minister Annalina Burbuk said that Ukraine should provide weapons to liberate the occupied territories and people who are suffering under the yoke of Russian terrorism".
